Raised Voice

Went to my lawyer, whom I was paying, with questions. My understanding was that I hired him to represent me in my divorce and he was the subject matter expert. I first asked if he was busy because I came unannounced, without an appointment. I was told to sit down. I sat and was visibly upset (crying...). I wanted to know if my soon to be ex-husband was allowed to ask certain questions. I found them to be very upsetting. I was told that they would be objected therefore my husbands lawyer would need to show cause in order for an answer to be compelled. I was told by my lawyer that I could ask similar questions ( presumably to cause discomfort). When I stated that I didn’t want to “go there” because I felt it was unnecessary, my lawyer decided to raise his voice considerably almost to the point of yelling at me. I chose to stand up, tell him he was out of line and leave. I ended our relationship and hired a new lawyer. At no time do I think it is appropriate for a lawyer to raise their voice at someone who is paying their salary.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
