John Michael Wood

John devotes significant effort to educating his clients about how the law impacts their business and personal lives, believing it enables them to make well-informed decisions which generate the best outcomes. It is an approach he follows throughout his practice, which serves clients in the areas of banking, business, real estate, family law, and civil litigation.

John’s practical approach to solving problems is especially effective in representing financial institutions with secured transactions, commercial foreclosures and collections where time is of the essence in recovering collateral. His experience in strategic business planning and problem solving for unanticipated problems helps his business clients maximize profits and minimize financial stress to their businesses. He has extensive experience with real estate matters including condominium development, commercial and residential transactions, leases, and representation of condominium, homeowners and timeshare associations. John’s emphasis on educating his clients provides his family law clients with peace of mind knowing that they are making informed strategic decisions that will enable them to successfully move on with their lives and give them the certainty they desire from a process where clients frequently feel their lives are out of their control. His approach to practicing law with an emphasis on solutions frequently helps clients avoid litigation or at least minimize the costs of litigation. John’s experience in business prior to his career in law enhances the expertise and advice he offers his clients. He has 13 years of experience in manufacturing serving as a supervisor and later as a founding shareholder and Vice President of Operations for an automated packaging equipment manufacturer located in Dallas, Texas serving food and dairy industries.

Graduating from Hamline University School of Law, John operated his own law office for five years and served as a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem for three years. John joined Nowlan & Mouat in 2002 and became a partner shortly thereafter. He is a member of the Rock County Bar Association, State Bar of Wisconsin, and American Bar Association.

John and his wife enjoy spending time with their three married children and grandchildren. John has served in a variety of capacities in his local church, coached youth athletics, and currently participates in several local and statewide charity biking events each year.
