My practice is focused on the areas of Business Bankruptcy, Real Estate, Business Litigation, Creditor/Debtor Negotiation, and other General Business work, oftentimes within the context of Chapter 11 Reorganizations. I assist companies that are in need of financial restructuring--whether in or outside of bankruptcy court--and help them to continue operating and preserve their assets and assemble a business plan that will allow them to succeed.
I also deal with matters involving general business litigation, commercial leasing, non-compete agreements, LLC and business formation, foreclosure and out-of-court workout cases, estate planning, real estate transactional work, and taxation issues involving distressed real estate.
Outside of the office, I enjoy many of the things Milwaukee has to offer: running and biking by the lakefront, attending MSO and broadway shows at the Marcus Center, cheering on Marquette at the Bradley Center, and enjoying the many farmers markets and community events througout the season. I have previously served on the Board of my downtown condo building and have been involved with the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association.

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing
Justin Mertz from Kerkman & Dunn was extremely helpful with representing our company during our recent 2 1/2 year Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing. "I've worked with and against attorney Mertz in several matters over the years. His technical understanding of complex business insolvency issues and his ability to formulate strategies that account for and control many variables at the same time is off the charts. He's one of the best attorneys of his kind in Wisconsin."
"I had the good fortune of working with Justin, and I found him to be extremely capable. He demonstrated a high degree of dedication to producing a quality work product, and he was able to "think out of the box" to assist clients in obtaining their goals. He has a clear and persuasive means of communication. In addition, he is extremely personable. Justin is enthusiastic about his work which is infectious. I certainly would recommend him as a top notch attorney."
