Attorney Emma L. Guthrie earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2018 after just three years, majoring in English and Philosophy with a minor in legal studies. As a student, she served as tutor for UWL’s English and Philosophy departments and completed an internship with the La Crosse Public Defender’s Office.
She continued on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School, where she focused her studies predominantly on criminal law and trial practice. During her second year of law school, Attorney Guthrie began clerking for a local criminal defense firm that immediately hired her on as an associate attorney following her graduation in 2021. The skill, knowledge, and experience Attorney Guthrie developed as a law clerk launched her into practice and allowed her to immediately begin taking criminal cases as a new attorney.
Attorney Guthrie continuously delivers her clients optimal outcomes in their cases by thinking outside the box when framing issues for pretrial motions, delivering oral arguments, and negotiating resolutions. The time and attention that she dedicates to each of her cases — and to each of her clients — directly reflects her devotion to providing fierce advocacy for those she represents. Having joined Van Severen Law Office in August of 2022, Attorney Guthrie is currently accepting new clients facing any type of criminal charge, drunk driving/OWI case, traffic matter, or revocation proceeding.
