Anthony Gerald Fox v. State of Mississippi, Court of Appeals Case # 2022-KA-00988-COA; Trial Court Case #25CI1:20-cr-00577-AHW-1
Jan 30, 2024OUTCOME: Reversed and Rendered
Anthony Fox and two fellow Jackson PD officers were indicted for second degree murder following a short “altercation” with Robinson, the alleged victim. Long story short, Robinson scraped his forehead ... on the asphalt and Fox had EMS check Robinson. Robinson refused medical treatment and refused to be transported to the hospital. Robinson was then field released with two citations and drove away. Later that evening, Robinson was taken to the hospital by ambulance from a motel. Robinson died a few days later due to complications of a subdural hematoma. The next day, Fox and the two other officers were facing a nightmare. On August 4, 2022, the jury convicted Fox of culpable-negligence manslaughter. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with all but five years suspended. Coxwell & Associates was hired for the Appeal. On March 28, 2023, we filed Fox’s Brief of Appellant. In July 2023, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office recommended a reversal in the case. The conviction was reversed on January 30, 2024, and Fox was released on February 7, 2024. One day after his release, the Clinton PD reinstated Fox as a narcotics detective. In a legal case that spanned over five years, multiple court appearances and 552 days behind bars, Justice was finally rendered, as best as possible. Attorneys Carlos Tanner, Merrida Coxwell, Courtney Sanders, and Francis Springer handled the appeal. https://courts.ms.gov/images/Opinions/CO172917.pdf https://www.sspba.org/gen/articles/MSPBA_member_Anthony_Fox_free_and_back_on_the_force_after_conviction_reversed_1012.jsp
