Successfully Re-opened a Denied VAWA Green Card

A woman came to me with a received notification that her self-petitioned green card was denied. She was unable to get a copy of the decision from her current attorney, and her current attorney was dodg ... ing all of her calls. She hired me and within days I was able to get the attorney to turn over the decision and uncover that the attorney screwed up by not submitting a response to a Request for Evidence. The window for a motion to reopen was rapidly closing so I prepared a thorough argument with attached evidence that the client should not be punished for her attorney's failure to meet their professional obligations. This client was also in need of an organ transplant so access to advanced parole was necessary. While waiting for the motion to reopen decision, I also successfully requested that USCIS expedite her case so that she can get permission to travel for her medical emergency. Her decision was reopened and during the time that USCIS re-evaluated her case, she was able to travel to her home country for medical care.
