From my earliest memory, I always knew I wanted to be an attorney. There was something about the concept of justice that spurred my curiosity and ultimately motivated me to pursue a legal education. After law school in Denver, I returned to Michigan and spent my first 10 years as an Assistant Prosector in Kent County. At the Prosecutor's Office, I refined my ability to try and win cases with a combination of studying the art of persuasion and proof of facts -- in other words, how to win.
After that, however, I felt my understanding of what "justice" meant to me personally needed to be redirected, so I transitioned to private practice in 1981 and have continued to litigate successfully ever since. And part of what's kept me going for so many years is my passion and excitement about the practice of law. I truly enjoy trying cases, and I genuinely care for my clients from the second they come through the door to well beyond when their case is over. It's incredibly heartwarming to hear of past clients' success stories once my staff and I have seen them through the darkness toward that light at the end of the tunnel.
When I'm not in the office, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and our critter-crazy beagle. I enjoy Whitecaps games, spending time outdoors, and fishing on Lake Michigan.
