OUTCOME: Reduced
Client was charged with Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon for allegedly assaulting her husband with a knife. Due to the client's serious mental health issues which several doctors agreed were a l...ikely cause for her behavior (after conducting an MRI and Brain Scan), I was able to obtain a much better outcome. Instead of being convicted of a felony, my client was able to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence with the possibility of it not appearing on her record if she successfully completes probation (which includes mental health treatment).

OUTCOME: Reduced
Client was charged with a probation violation charge and the probation officer presented a very long list of alleged violations. The probation officer was asking the judge to incarcerate my client for... 30 days. I worked hard to minimize the penalty and was able to obtain a ten day jail sentence instead of 30. I was also able to obtain "weekend" jail so my client would not be fired from a job after only recently being promoted to manager. Although a jail sentence was imposed, my client was very happy with the outcome, especially after knowing what the probation officer was pushing for. It is always important to have an attorney on your side who will fight even when there may seem to be no options.

ANOTHER HAPPY CLIENT: Client charged with 2nd Offense Drunk Driving (OWI-2). Negotiated it down to Impaired Driving (OWVI) with no probation.
When I get a case, I keep an open mind and look at it li...ke a puzzle. I try to make sure all of the pieces are there and that they all fit. In this case, after watching the dashcam video of the traffic stop, much of the officer’s statements in his report became very questionable. It was obvious that there was, what I call, “cut and paste policing.” Basically, the police report was written the way nearly every other OWI report is written. It looked as if the officer just cut and pasted from old reports and the dashcam video didn’t quite match up.
As such, trial could have gone either way for my client so both sides, and the judge agreed with my recommendations. It is always better to have your case properly investigated by an attorney who knows what to look for than to go it alone. If you drink, call a cab. If arrested, “Call Ed Instead!” (616) 233-CALL-ED.

OUTCOME: Civil Infraction
ANOTHER CLIENT VICTORY! My client was charged with OWI (drunk driving). He was from out of town and retained me to help him fight this charge. After a thorough investigation, I was able to obtain a ...reduced charge from OWI to Careless Driving. Now, instead of having a criminal conviction on his record for life, my client will pay $215 for a civil infraction that will fall off his driving record in a couple of years. Remember, it is very important that you have an attorney who understand all the complexities of the charges you face. If you drink, call a cab. If arrested, Call Ed Instead! (616) 233-CALL-ED.

ANOTHER CLIENT VICTORY! My client was charged with Domestic Violence against a woman he had a child with (which by the way, they had no children together but that is what he was charged with). The wo...man was an acquaintance who was attempting to extort money from him. He had asked her to leave his home and then called 911 to request police assistance because she wouldn’t leave. Once she realized he was on the phone with the 911 operator, she began screaming in the background and called 911 herself claiming he was choking her. He was arrested and granted a court-appointed attorney.
At his first pretrial conference, his attorney tried to convince him to just plead guilty – he Called Ed Instead! I met with him and began a very thorough investigation which revealed that she has a criminal history in multiple states, including beating her girlfriend in the head with a hammer and other crimes of dishonesty and violence. I quickly learned that this woman lives a life of conning or extorting people out of money and does not care who she victimizes.
To make a long story short, just as trial was about to begin, I obtained a dismissal from the judge which the prosecutor did not object to. My client is now a free man!

OUTCOME: Dismissed
My client called the police to assist her as she tried to obtain her personal belongings and leave her boyfriend. He had been abusive in the past and was becoming very argumentative and threatening. ...When the police arrived, my client was the one arrested and charged with domestic violence. Fortunately after investigating this case, and after lengthy discussions with the prosecutor, I was able to obtain a dismissal of the charges. Very happy client.
