I was a hearing officer for the Michigan Secretary of State Driver License Appeals Division for 31 years. During my tenure as a hearing officer I presided over more than 25,000 hearings regarding individuals who had their driving privileges revoked/denied/suspended/terminated. The vast majority of the hearings I presided over were for individuals who had alcohol and/or drug driving convictions. In the last ten years of my practice I conducted thousands of hearings related to drivers who had an ignition interlock on their vehicle. The remaining hearings I conducted related to individuals who had their privileges suspended, restricted, revoked, denied for medical reasons, too many points or crashes, or other reasons.
I retired from state service and returned to to private practice in January of 2010. I limit my practice to representing individuals who have issues with their driving privileges- only now I’m representing them in their attempt to retain their privileges, or seeking the return of their privileges after the state has taken an action suspending, revoking, or denying their privileges.
About 98% of my practice is representing individuals at hearings conducted by Driver License Appeal Division hearing officers- where I was employed for 31 years. Almost 100% of those clients have had alcohol and/or drug related convictions. My remaining clients had, or are in jeopardy of having, their driving privileges suspended, restricted or revoked because of issues related too many points, too many crashes, or medical reason.
Now that the courts and Drivers License Appeals have begun requiring individuals convicted of alcohol related infractions to install ignition interlocks on their vehicle I have had an influx of clients who need representation regarding interlock violations. While I as hearing officer the first interlock programs were introduce in Michigan and I attended training conducted by interlock companies regarding the to use and operation of interlock.
I have represented a number of clients who no longer live in Michigan and are seeking a release of a hold Michigan has on their driver’s license so the State they now live in will issue them driving privileges.
If cannot help you I will not take your case- your time and money is too precious. If we decide we can work together I will use the knowledge, insights, and training I accumulated during my 31 years as a Driver License Appeal hearing officer and my years in private practice to provide you with the best representation I can. My clients are not just dollar bill signs. Because I am selective as to who I choose to represent you will receive the service and personal attention you deserve.
Thank You for taking the time to get to know me. Jerry
