Daniel G. Helton

I have been a practicing attorney in private practice for 20 years (as of 2010), 13 years as an associate, then partner at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn in Detroit and the last 7 years as a solo practitioner.  I was employed by the National Labor Relations Board in Detroit for 10 years before going into private practice.  1990 graduate of Wayne State University Law School, Magna Cum Laude, Order of the Coif.  I have handled a large number of commercial law suits, on both the plaintiff and defendant side and have tried to completion approximately 30 cases.  I am comfortable in both state and federal courts and while most of my practice has been in Michigan, I have successfully handled litigation in Ohio, North Carolina and California federal courts and Kentucky state court.  I have handled numerous appeals in the Michigan appellate courts and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.  A list of published appellate decisions involving my cases can be found at

My labor practice includes representation of both employers and unions in traditional labor law cases.  I have prosecuted and defended employment law claims.
