I did litigation for approximately ten years before coming to work for the Court of Appeals. I represented plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts, at the trial level and in appeals. I obtained summary disposition or summary judgment in dozens of cases, winning the cases, even large damages ones (cases that mediated for over a million dollars), without the need for a costly trial. I also participated in successful trial practice, although I did not try cases by myself.

I litigated constitutional claims of various sorts on behalf of municipal clients (townships, cities, counties, and their officials and agents). Many of the cases were land use disputes, cases alleging police misconduct, jail misconduct (including failure to prevent suicide), and cases alleging municipal misconduct against businesses.

Medical Malpractice 10%

I practiced medical malpractice defense for approximately 6 years as an attorney (plus additional years as a law clerk or paralegal for law firms). I fought Geoffrey Feiger at the trial court level, with a degree of success, using the best briefing and strategy available.

I practiced municipal law for approximately 6 years, representing municipalities (townships and cities) by drafting ordinances and handling ordinance enforement actions, land use planning matters, zoning appeals, and other municipal matters.

I represented municipalities in land use and zoning disputes, pre-litigation, and helped to revise zoning ordinances, and to draft entirely new zoning and land use ordinances.
