A balanced review

Katherine is a good person but doesn't know how to collaborate. She is more concerned about protecting herself - forcing asynchronous communication via email - than representing her client. She refused to meet in person and often refused to talk on the phone, stating she was "too busy" and would forc...e dialogue to email. She would then provide pushback on requests, without providing alternatives, simultaneously misinterpreting the communication (surprise - it's email). So what should have been a simple 15 minute dialogue on phone or in person became a 10-day email interaction that literally cost thousands of dollars. Ironically, when it was advantageous to her desired course of action, she would suddenly be available to talk on the phone or meet in person... but this never happened if I disagreed (or even had questions about) her suggested course of action -- during that time, she was always unavailable. And since every course of action has a stopwatch associated with it, it was obvious that Katherine was using stonewalling as a technique to force her way. While Katherine is good at writing briefs and took time to digest all the information I emailed her, this can only be effective to an extent, without further dialogue and F2F communication. Katherine used blatant, neophyte manipulation/control techniques of stonewalling communication when she wanted to force a particular course of action and referred to the Judge being unhappy (as a certainty) and threat of jail as other techniques. It was tiresome and made me realize I was dealing with someone very young and still trying to control clients versus collaborate with clients. An obvious aspect of a controlling personality is one who speaks over you when you are talking. Katherine has a very bad habit of interrupting mid-sentence and never allowing one to get a question or thought out. I spent over $12k on Katherine's services and feel half of that was wasted on her inability to communicate (i.e., forcing email dialogue for ten days where a 15-minute phone conversation should suffice). Overall, Katherine successfully helped move my case forward but I fired her because, after expressing my discontent, she did not modify her style but simply said, in essence, "if you don't like how I do things, get another attorney". So I did. I feel I am a very tolerant person, but I expect professionals who are hired to represent me, to represent me... not themselves. I hope this review helps other people.
