Since volunteering in an organization which usually accepts volunteers, it should be not considered as working/employment without authorization.

If you only intend to give your niece some immigration benefits and if she is over 16, it is too late to adopt her for immigration purpose unless...

You may also want to do a little bit of research on whether UK has a treaty with US for UK citizen driving in US. Mexico has some kind of treaty...

I agree. Unfortunately, your obligation cannot be terminated until the person sponsored becomes a citizen, not just a permanent resident.

If you try to get employment after graduation, a degree in paralegal may not land you a job which qualifies as H-1B.

Your visa number is right. It is a letter followed by 7 digits.

if you have his Alien number, it is easy to find out whether he is detained anywhere in US.

Do you mean "the name check clearance" or police clearance? The consulate should run name checks prior to the interview.
