I represent individuals in foreign accounts compliance, tax controversies, and estate planning. My foreign accounts compliance work includes delinquent FBAR filings; Streamlined Procedures filings, for residents of the United States as well as nonresidents; Forms 8938; Forms 5471; Forms 8865; Forms 3520; Forms 3520-A; and the Internal Revenue Code Sec. 911 foreign earned inclme exclusion. I represent taxpayers in tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service and in U.S. Tax Court. I perform estate planning for high net worth individuals, including those owning interests in closely-held businesses. Many of my estate planning clients have residences in more than one jurisdiction. I am expert in Federal estate and gift taxation, and in income tax issues in estate planning. I strive to provide clients the very best legal representation possible. I obesrve the attorneys' code of professional responsibility in letter and spirit.
I am an active blogger. I have written a Thomson Reuters treatise, Foreign Accounts Complinace, and update it annually. Beginning in 2018 I will teach International Taxation and Tax Treaties, at Michigan State University College of Law.
I live in Troy, Michigan with my wife of 41 years. We have three grown children and 11 grandchildren.

"Steve is a leading expert on tax controversies, including foreign accounts. He has recently published a book on foreign accounts. He is also a leading estate planning lawyer. I have known Steve for many years, and strongly recommend him for his expertise and integrity."
"Mr. Dunn's expertise in foreign accounts compliance is unparalleled. The value he adds to his clients is the knowledge he's acquired through his extensive experience in foreign compliance issues. This knowledge cannot be gained from reviewing the tax code or reading practice manuals. He understands the ins and outs of the OVDP and streamlined offshore programs to provide the best results for his clients."
"Steve Dunn is a consummate Professional who has a mastery of his practice area which goes straight to his clients' bottom line. Steve's practical approach to his Practice assists his clients with the sometimes confusing and counter-intuitive nature of tax law, the IRS and related matters. As someone who has both worked with and been a client of Steve's, I can and do recommend him without qualification."
