Two Felony Drunk Driving Charges and Possession of Cocaine... in 5 Days
Feb 27, 2020OUTCOME: Averted a maximum 4 years in prison and only served 30 days with outpatient rehabilitation
This client was referred to me by a very happy prior client. I was told that I would never see a case like this again and he was right. The gentleman who came to see me was a successful business owner ... and loving husband. However, he was in recovery from alcoholism and a recent miscarriage triggered an uncontrollable binge in alcohol and whatever other drugs he could obtain. I was told he was booked on a felony drunk driving charge in Ferndale and then ANOTHER felony drunk driving charge in Berkley, with the second one also adding a felony charge of possession of cocaine (crack). After getting him out on a personal bond with both courts, the covid lockdowns closed down the court system for about a year. Once they were back up and running, I spoke with the Prosecuting Attorney and the Judge who were both ok with the minimum jail sentence along with outpatient rehabilitation. They also agreed to dismiss the drug charge along with the sentencing agreement. The client had feared years in prison and his business going bankrupt. This gave him a second chance to make amends. We took the reduction and everything went just like our plan. He was also sober for the time he was on bond and performed great in rehab, letting him see his the world through sober eyes. He has become a sponsor for others and even have given them jobs when they are in need.
