Daniel J. Cherrin

Daniel J. Cherrin became Detroit’s lead spokesperson and brandbuilder following a tumultuous period in Detroit’s history. Cherrin helpedrestore the integrity back to the office of Mayor and the trust back to citygovernment.  He was appointed by Detroit’s 61st Mayor, Kenneth V. Cockrel Jr. as theCommunications Director and Press Secretary for the City of Detroit in September 2008. As Detroit’s ChiefCommunications Officer, Cherrin was responsible for creating, implementing andexpanding strategic communications strategies for America’s 11thlargestcity. This includes leading the communications efforts for the city at eventssuch as: The NCAAFinal Four; the NorthAmerican International Auto Show; the Annual Thanksgiving DayParade; and Motown’s 50th Anniversary.  With Detroit’s emerging film industry,Cherrin also acted as the City’s publicist and worked in tandem with productioncompanies such as HBO and A&E in promoting new films in Detroit. 

Daniel Cherrin is an attorney, lobbyist and PR executive with 12years of experience providing senior public relations and government relationscounsel to corporations, not-for-profits and individual clients on state andfederal regulatory and legislative matters, as well as issues affectingcorporate and individual reputation, crisis management and the media.  He blends his legal expertise andlitigation experience with deep public policy insight and strategiccommunications capabilities for clients in the public eye.  Cherrin has developed a successfultrack record of positive legislative accomplishments for clients around issuesaffecting higher education, defense, economic development, homeland security,and international trade.

Cherrin is now the President of North Coast Strategies, astrategic communications and public affairs firm where law, politics and publicopinion collide. Cherrin’sclients, both past and present include: America’s largest daily newspaper, oneof the busiest border crossings in North America, Canada’s 11th largestuniversity, the nation’s largest single-campus medical school and others. Ihave created a bi-national firm, representing organizations ranging fromstart-ups to public companies, to international border crossings and majoruniversities – in Michigan, Connecticut, New York, Alabama, Florida,Pennsylvania and Ohio. This includes athletes, such as Marco Andretti, DarenMcCarty (NHL) and Lisa Fisco who at 48 years of age, is training for the 2012Olympics in Women’s Weightlifting and SmashMedia, a Los Angeles-basedproduction company.
