Edward Lee Veazey

I hired Mr. Veazey for a high conflict divorce with a history of abuse toward myself and child in September 2023. Lee seemed personable, too personable as he removed his wedding band laid it on the conference desk and proceeded to tell me that he was not married; that he only wore the ring to dete...r women. He then shared how he remembered me from our children's daycare, down to the car I drove though I had no recollection of who he was. Later I learned from another former client he did the same thing to her as well as winking and etc. During scheduled teleconference’s Mr. Veazey would sit in silence, when asked if he was still there he would reply “I’m just thinking” with not much insight given and seemingly uninterested. 4 months after the initial filing I still had not had a court date or temporary child support ordered. Living in a hostile environment with my now ex ended with a protective order against him. We did get a court date at the end of January (at the request of opposing council). At this emergency hearing Mr. Veazey was ill prepared. In the hallway he mentioned to me incorrect information pertaining to the case that I corrected him on. During the hearing itself he then almost introduced that same information as evidence to which I had to write on our notepad that it was incorrect. He did not show that he had any familiarity with the evidence provided, or as to what opposing council would be presenting. Opposing council ran the hearing while Mr. Veazey was reading though printouts and writing down things to ask the witness. During his cross there was a long uncomfortable pause as Mr. Veazey had nothing prepared. He leaned to me and stated that he was stalling. We had been there with my ex on the stand for 3 hours and none of our evidence had been introduced, courts were about to close for the day and we hadn’t discussed the important topics. The last 7 minutes were used to finally discuss visitation which was supposed to have been stipulated as supervised and recommended at the parenting center however his unpreparedness left no time to introduce the abuse that had occurred and visiting was ordered at my exes parents home every other weekend. March I still had not received a court order from the January hearing. Now 6 months Into the divorce. After multiple requests for updates and an order for clarification on the visitation I finally received an email that included a letter to opposing council for my approval that had incorrect information in it. I did not approve the document to be sent but then was told that it already had been. I requested a teleconference with Mr. Veazey but after a law enforcement officer, an unrelated attorney, and a former Veazey client all told me I needed new representation (putting it nicely) based on their experiences and my concerns I canceled the conference and terminated his employment. I requested my final invoice and learned that funds had been misapplied to my account and that previous invoices had been incorrect. Leaving me with a larger than expected (or earned imo). I also caught that his rate had increased in January although this had never been related to me other than the initial documents state that fees may increase usually at a firm level. I did dispute that this was not adequate to be “informed”. The office did after a month of my reaching out resolve the issue and update the invoice to the agreed hourly rate. I was hesitant to terminate as I didn’t know how I would afford a new retainer at another firm but I have zero regrets. The new attorney was prorated for mediation in less than a month and was impressively prepared. I met with her once and saw her once before mediation. We walked out of mediation with my ex voluntarily terminating his parental rights. Get the right attorney and if yours like Mr. Veazey try’s to tell you that things are standard— find a new one.

Unfortunately, I had been lumped into a stereo type. Unwed father, unborn son, and an ex who wanted nothing but to keep me out of my son's life. Though I tried everything to make things peace and try to avoid court, nothing could change her mind. In walks her lawyer refusing to allow me any reasonabl...e parenting rights, and refuses to let me sign the birth certificate. Me. Veazey was very helpful in allowing the opportunity to both be prepared and proactively work with me. After nine long months, we officially won everything I asked for in one court case overseen by a judge. Was there a lot of wake up calls regarding how limiting Indiana law can be for an unwed father, yes. There were many bad days, many unfair days, but now things are 100 times better then where we were. To this date, I am the first father ever in Indiana to win that many overnights with a 9 month old. I owe a lot to Mr. Veazey and he is always trying to find new ways to help me when things get rough.

I'm was just a simple guy with a very complicated situation. You see, I was married. I had 1 step child and 1 biological child. Then several years into the marriage we adopted 5 children out of foster care. Shortly after that I found myself in divorce court. At this point I had not met Lee Veazey... yet and used a different lawyer. HUGE MISTAKE! As a self employed father and the ex was a stay at home mom, I lost everything to her. This empowered her and a year later she is moving to out of state with the 6 kids leaving me to pay child support and getting very little visitation. This is where LEE VEAZEY steps into the game. Lee took this case and did everything in his power to fight this decision and action by my ex. Over the course of two years Lee build a case that was bullet proof. My ex, well, she was a lawyer by the time we get to court. Her soon to be husband was also on his way to his law degree. They also had hired a good local attorney in the area to help with Indiana law. Then, as if me and Lee weren't already outnumbered, the University that my ex attended and her fiancé they were using this case as a case study. So 20-30 prelaw students were also working to build my ex a bullet proof case against me. THIS NEVER SCARED LEE OR INTIMIDATED HIM. This is when I really found out what a good decision I had made. You see, Lee is extremely knowledgeable in the specifics of the law and court room proceedings. Over the 2 long years, Lee reviewed hundreds of photos, hundreds of text messages, doctors reports, counselors reports, many interactions with the children we finally got our day in court. Let me just say Lee was brilliant!!! Two days of testimony by my lawyer ex and her fiancée and their team of experts, and I personally was only on the stand for 15 minutes. The rest of the time Lee was methodically picking their case apart piece by piece. It finally got to a point where this team of lawyers that Lee single handily face imploded and was left dazed and confused. For this, my family is ETERNALLY grateful. I now have sole full custody of my children and they are very successful in school and life. There is no doubt that I would HIGHLY recommend Lee and the firm he works for. I'm honored to call him my lawyer and my friend.

Mr Veazey has been hired for over a year to seek full custody, file contempts, and also reduction of child support. To date, child suppose is the only thing that has been tackled. Now, we found out after the fact that our bills were not factored in and also discovered that the ex didn't provide her ...bank records, taxes, etc. Since that happened, my unemployment and retirement pension were garnished simultaneously and illegally although I had proof of not being behind! Over a year later and after being strapped financially, we finally get before the judge and he wants answers. Mr Veazey wants to now "quit" and nothing is rectified. I discovered my ex w/sons are moving out of state via "Instagram" and I have no address and the ex isn't responding. Phones aren't working! My attorney says there is "nothing he can do"! He has not done what was requested from our initial meeting. There have been ongoing discrepancies in emails versus phone conversations/texts, etc. we plan on pursuing action against him and the judge has been contacted. My boys were questioned by the attorneys "without" audio/video to see where they wanted to live. The judge was NOT present although Mr Veazey said he was. He went as far as to tell my wife and myself how "impressed" the judge was of the boys. The boys later told us they were surprised that they never spoke to the judge. There is to much to list on here, but our lives are forever effected now due to decisions made without my input. This attorney spends much time with the opposing attorney! Agreements are made and I'm told about them later. I am pressed to go along with or I'm given scare tactics. I stand behind all of my statement here today and have proof to back my experience with this attorney. I was also given a contract last week where I was told to "fill in the blanks" on what I thought child support should be and was told to attach the causes to go along with. I'M NOT AN ATTORNEY! Dangerous and our lives have definitely been altered with this experience. Damage has been done that can't be undone. We so shouldn't be given a bill where he and the opposing attorney altered my visitation time for the ex! I said no and he continued on with it, and still got the bill. Again, to many items to mention on here. If I had all to do over, I would have been much better off representing myself. Where my sons wanted to live with me a year ago (per the family therapist), I have been alienated to the point that I'm lucky to get a phone call. Again, contempts were never filed, although I was given impression otherwise. My life and my children's lives are permanently altered. Please think twice in this guy! I would be curious to know if others have had similar experiences?! We have contacted the judge and are pursuing all alternatives to shed light on this attorney and his actions.
