Michael Shipman is in his 28th year of public service as a prosecutor in Wayne County, Indiana.
A 1996 graduate of IU McKinney School of Law, Mr. Shipman began his legal career as Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Benton County before joining the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in 1999. He served as Deputy Prosecutor and later Chief Deputy Prosecutor before being elected Wayne County Prosecutor in 2005 — a position he has held ever since.
Over nearly three decades, Mr. Shipman has handled the full spectrum of criminal and civil matters that come through a county prosecutor's office — from misdemeanors to the most serious felonies, including a death penalty case and three life without parole murder prosecutions. He has also managed civil forfeitures, juvenile matters, child support enforcement, probation violations, extraditions, detainers, and expungements.
With more than 200 jury trials to his name and having served as special prosecutor in seven Indiana counties, Mr. Shipman is one of the most experienced trial attorneys in eastern Indiana.
He is committed to the fair and thorough administration of justice for the residents of Wayne County.
