On January 1, 2014, MMA Fighter Joe Torrez was the victim of a violent home invasion by four gang members. One of the perpetrators was killed during the home invasion. Even though he acted in self de ... fense of himself and his family (including his two year old son), Torrez came under the scrutiny of the State of New Mexico, which threatened to charge him with a crime. Mr. McElhinney began representing Torrez within hours of the home invasion and orchestrated a media campaign to rally support for Torrez which garnered world wide attention. Though it took several months, Torrez was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing and never charged with a crime.
