Defense verdict in favor of client, a commercial refrigerator manufacturer, in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The plaintiffs, three insurance companies, alleged that client manufactured ... a defective product that allegedly caused a November 2015 restaurant fire. With the assistance of a fire origination expert and an electrical engineer, we were able to provide the jury with an alternative theory of what caused the fire - the spontaneous combustion of oily rags left in a clothing dryer. Damages were stipulated at $2.25 million (the amount of the adjusted claims paid to their insureds).
