James Murphy Lewis

I help business owners and managers with both transactional issues (including forming a business, negotiating a contract, buying and selling a business, buying and leasing real estate) and dispute resolution including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.  From the years I worked inside a business as in-house counsel, I understand the viewpoint of a business manager who needs practical advice in real time.  I am known as a pragmatic problem-solver who is creative and works efficiently.  On the litigation side I am involved in trial court work in both state and federal courts in both northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan.  I have also briefed and argued appeals before the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  Our 12-lawyer law firm is large enough to handle sophisticated business transactions and complex commercial litigation, but small enough to be responsive and agile.
