She received her Juris Doctorate from Indiana University McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis where she graduated cum laude with a certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Studies from Indiana University Bloomington, graduating magna cum laude. Katie spent a year abroad in Madrid, Spain mastering her linguistic skills where she took a full course of university classes in Spanish, and taught English to Spanish children.
Katie is very active in her Near-Westside community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Hawthorne Community Center as a member of the Programs and Personnel Committee. She is also a member of the leadership team of Hawthorne Neighborhood Association, part of the Near West Collaborative. She is particularly enthusiastic about neighborhood beautification and engaging Spanish-speaking residents.
