Jillean Jeanise Battle

Jillean Long Battle serves as Chief Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel to the 55th State Treasurer, Kelly Mitchell. Before serving in her current role, Battle was Legislative Director for the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS). She represented INPRS before the Indiana General Assembly, and worked to advance the achievement of retirement security for current and future retirees and their beneficiaries.

A California native, Battle received her Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Political Science from UC Berkeley. Upon relocation to Indiana, she attended Robert H. McKinney School of Law and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.

While in law school, Battle worked in all three branches of Indiana Government, where she focused her attention on financial crimes against Hoosiers. As a member of the Indiana Securities Division, Jillean and the Prosecution Assistance Unit collaborated with prosecutors around Indiana in the prosecution of violations of the Indiana Securities and Loan Brokers Act. Battle also served to protect consumers from deceptive and predatory business practices while working in the Office of the Indiana Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

Battle first transitioned to the Office of the Treasurer in 2011 when she was named Chief Counsel to the 53rd Treasurer of State, Richard Mourdock. She served as the office’s internal control point for ethics and a designee board member with the Indiana Housing Community and Development Authority (IHCDA).

Committed to the community, Battle received the Bronze Level Pro Bono Award for her dedication to public service. Jillean has dedicated countless hours to mentoring the youth as a Leader of Daisy Scout Troop-2581 and as a volunteer with Wheeler Mission Ministries. Most recently, Governor Pence appointed Battle to serve on the INPRS Board of Trustees. With $30.2 billion in assets under management, INPRS ranks among the largest 100 pension funds in the U.S.
