OUTCOME: Not Guilty

Mr. Villarroel represented the Defendant on an assault and battery charge in Alexandria City. The matter stemmed from an argument involving the Defendant and another individual relating to an ancill ... ary family dispute. An officer happened to be in the vicinity and arrested the Defendant only. Defendant maintained his innocence throughout the entire proceedings. On the day of court, a trial on the merits was held in the Alexandria City General District Court. Mr. Villarroel cross-examined the alleged victim, another civilian witness for the Commonwealth, as well as the arresting officer. Mr. Villarroel was able to highlight contradictions in their testimonies and point out ulterior motivations by the civilian witnesses against the Defendant. The court returned a not guilty verdict.
