Dean Edward McConnell

Dean McConnell has extensive experience in all facets of intellectual property law.  Mr. McConnell started practicing as a law clerk for an intellectual property boutique firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995.  From there, Mr. McConnell began practicing as an attorney for a large and nationally recognized intellectual property boutique firm, Brinks Gilson & Lione, in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1997.  Mr. McConnell then transferred his practice to Krieg DeVault, a large and well known Indianapolis, Indiana based general practice firm, where he practiced until he decided to venture into his own private practice.  During his associations at other firms, Mr. McConnell gained unique insight into all areas of intellectual property law ranging from patent and trademark prosecution to high-stakes intellectual property litigation.

Mr. McConnell’s representative arts in which he has prepared and prosecuted patent applications on behalf of clients include semi-conductors, wireless communication, telecommunication, analog and digital circuits, computer science and software, mechanical engineering, and medical devices.  Mr. McConnell has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications for clients ranging from small individual inventors to Fortune 500 companies. 

Mr. McConnell has extensive global experience in other areas of intellectual property.  This experience includes conducting infringement and invalidity studies, assisting clients design around existing patents, representing clients before the International Trade Commission in connection with intellectual property matters, defending patents subject to reexamination before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and filing and prosecuting trademark applications both nationally and internationally. 

Mr. McConnell has extensive litigation experience and will not hesitate to go to court to defend clients’ rights.  Mr. McConnell has been involved in litigation matters that have included claims of patent infringement, trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, unfair competition, false advertising, trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract and copyright infringement.
