Shannon Elizabeth Garvey

She graduated from Indiana University in 1996, as a member of the social sorority Pi Beta Phi, where she represented her house as a member of their Little 500 bike team for 2 years.  She was also a member of the academic fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated from Indiana University Law School-Indianapolis in 1999.  With more than 25 years of dedicated legal experience, she has spent her career navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system. She is a passionate advocate for restorative justice, having several years experience working in various problem-solving courts. These courts have included Marion County Community Court, mental health courts, and she was instrumental in the creation of the Marion County Veteran's Treatment Court. During her time with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, she was the Deputy Prosecutor in a grant funded and highly successful Felony Diversion Program, that focused on the goal of the Defendant earning a dismissal of their case while often receiving whatever help and services they may have needed to address issues that led them into the criminal justice system to begin with. 

Throughout her career she has combined fierce advocacy with a holistic, collaborative approach, understanding that true rehabilitation often requires addressing the root causes of justice involvement.  Having worked extensively in the past with clinicians, case managers and case managers, she often looks for alternative sentence and treatment-focused resolutions that allow her clients to rebuild their lives. She is recognized by past clients and colleagues for her unwavering empathy.

She is a very proud wife and mother of one son. She loves all animals, her favorite being her 11 year-old dog Georgia.  She is a fan of all sports, supporting many local teams. She has been an athlete all her life, and enjoys working out and playing pickleball.

She is loyal, protective and passionate, in life and work.
