A 1996 graduate of IU McKinney School of Law, Mr. Shipman began his legal career in Benton County, Indiana. He had a civil practice and served part-time as chief deputy prosecutor before joining the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in 1999. He served as deputy prosecutor and later chief deputy prosecutor before being elected Wayne County Prosecutor in 2005, a position he held until September 2026.
Over nearly three decades, Mr. Shipman has handled the full spectrum of criminal and civil matters that come through a county prosecutor's office, from misdemeanors to the most serious felonies, including a death penalty case and two life without parole murder prosecutions. In September 2026, Mr. Shipman left the prosecutor's office and opened Shipman Law.
