Matthew attended Butler University and later the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University and graduated in 2010. While in law school, Matthew excelled in the classroom and as part of the school’s clinical programs, graduating in the top 25% of his class and earning the 2010 Outstanding Clinic Student of the Year Award. Matthew also competed in and won the 2010 IU Client Counseling Competition, advancing to the ABA Client Counseling Competition where he was a regional Semi-finalist.
After law school, Matthew began his legal career as a Trial Attorney with the Marion County Public Defender Agency. There he began to hone his skills as a trial attorney and litigator. To date, Matthew has conducted hundreds of different types of hearings (including dozens of Jury Trials) to completion for his clients. His reputation as a skilled and forceful litigator has been well earned.
In 2014, after years of representing clients charged with serious crimes including major felonies and misdemeanors, Matthew formed his own practice. In May 2018, Matthew joined the firm of Cate, Terry & Gookins LLC as Of Counsel. His practice is all about helping those who have suffered a significant harm or who's freedom is at stake, focusing primarily on civil litigation (including Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, as well as other forms of business and personal disputes.)
Matthew prides himself on “client-centric” representation. That means that you can expect him to listen more than talk. Representing clients is what he does, and to do that, he needs to know all there is to know about a client and their situation so that he can craft the best solution to any given problem. It is his firm belief that this is the best and most efficient way to help people in their time of need.
He takes great pride in treating each client and their case as if they are the most important person in the room...... because they are.

Mr. Keyes
Although I never thought I would need a criminal attorney, I’m extremely happy with how Mr. Keyes represented me in and out of court. He is respectful, diligent, answered all of my questions and made me feel as if I was his only client. I highly recommend Mr. Keyes!
"I endorse this lawyer. Mr. Keyes is a good lawyer. We worked together and he has a strong work ethic and is willing to fight for his clients."
"I endorse Matt for each of his practice areas, including criminal defense, personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, veteran's benefits, social security, small claims, business litigation, and complex civil litigation."
"I have worked with Matt for several years. He is diligent and committed to his clients - a terrific attorney!"
"I first met Matt Keyes when I was a judicial officer and Matt tried criminal cases in front of me. He was always prepared, detail oriented, and protected the best interests of his client. The largest endorsement I can give is that soon after I returned to private practice, I asked Matt to join my firm. He is top-notch in all aspects of practicing law and displays high intellect and integrity. Do not hesitate to trust Matt Keyes with your legal issues."
"Matt is an excellent attorney. I have practiced in the same court with him for a number of years and have seen him in action. He does a great job for his clients."
