The parties were involved in a child custody dispute and both were proceeding without legal representation. When the Court ruled for the opposing party after a one hour temporary hearing, the Father h ... ired us to represent him. During the course of the case, we learned the minor child was not being taken care of properly and that his school records indicated that in his Mother's care, he had excessive tardies and absences. We also discovered that the Mother was abusing drugs and alcohol and putting the minor child in danger of harm. We filed an emergency custody petition and my client was granted temporary emergency custody of the minor child. At the final hearing, we won primary physical and legal custody of the minor child. The Mother's visitation was limited to supervised visitation due to her erratic and unstable behavior.

Client sought a termination of parental rights on the Father of her minor child. The minor child did not know his Father, whose whereabouts were unknown. He had never participated in the minor child' ... s life or provided support. The client was about to remarry a wonderful man who loved the minor child and needed assistance closing the chapter of neglect and abuse for this young boy so he could enjoy his new secure and loving family. A termination of parental rights hearing was conducted where the Court granted our request to terminate the Father's rights. Following the entry of the Order, a petition for adoption was filed and granted.

Parties were involved in a multi-state custody battle since shortly after the birth of the two minor children. North Carolina was the third State involved. The opposing party filed for a modification ... of the current custody arrangement which could have uprooted the minor children and reversed the custodial parent. By granting the opposing party's request, the minor children would have been moved to another State. After many months of litigation and four days of hearing, the Court ruled in our favor, granting my client the primary physical custody of the children.
