Insurer Denied Claim
Jun 05, 2018OUTCOME: Two months after receiving my letter, the insurance company reversed their decision and covered her surgery.
My client didn't have health insurance, as she was between jobs. She developed a minor medical issue. When the issue persisted, she purchased health insurance. The health insurance plan was permitted t ... o exclude pre-existing conditions. She later saw a specialist who determined that she had cancer and needed surgery immediately. She got the surgery, at the cost of $140k. Her insurance company denied her claim, citing the minor medical issue as evidence of a "pre-existing condition." I wrote to the insurance company, told them that their understanding of the law was incorrect.
