Plaintiff's wife suffered irreversible brain damage as a result of her OB/GYN's negligence in failing to control her erratic/labile blood pressures and in failing to recognized pulmonary edema (excessi ... ve fluid in the lungs) was the cause or contributing factors to wife's erratic blood pressures and precipitous decrease in blood-oxygen saturation. Evidence showed wife's fluid intake was significantly higher than her fluid output, which caused excess fluid to build up in her lungs. Wife was sent to radiology to have x-ray and CT scans performed to rule out potential causes for drop in oxygen saturation when she experienced cardio-respiratory arrest and lost all heart function for 11 minutes, depriving her brain of necessary oxygen to maintain normal brain function. Plaintiff's wife survived, but was left with permanent brain damage and unable to perform everyday activities without assistance. Doctor and Practice found liable for failure to adhere to standard of care in treating Plaintiff's wife and causing her traumatic brain injuries. Plaintiff's special damages were $9,822,777.18 Jury found Wife's compensatory damages were $18,000,000.00 Jury also awarded husband $18,000,000.00 in damages for loss of consortium.
