Whose papers were they? Were they the papers of a US citizen? If so, you have a MAJOR problem

You need a lawyer. YOu can not travel or you will be executing your own removal order.

This is not good news at all and USCIS may place your spouse into removal / dseportation proceedings. I highly recommend finding a lawyer to help...
