If it part of your school curriculum you can volunteer. Working in a hospital changing bedpans or feeding the hungry is permitted volunteer work ...

You should talk to a lawyer ASAP.Your status ends when you were terminated. Managing a restaurant is not likely considered a "specialty occupation"...
