Matthew Austin Mooney

Matthew A. Mooney was raised in Medina, Ohio and graduated with Honors from Medina High School in 2006. Matt then attended the University of Akron, receiving a Bachelors Degree in History and a Minor in Spanish. Matt worked as a Nurse Aide at Akron General Medical Center in the Progressive, Medical, and Surgical Intensive Care Units through most of his Undergraduate studies. He was accepted into the University of Akron School of Law in 2011, while continuing to work as a Nurse Aide. Matt received his Juris Doctor from the School of Law in 2015 with Certificates in Litigation and Health Law.

Growing up in a household of healthcare workers, and with experience providing patient care, Matt has a rare perspective and sensitivity to the experiences of patients and their family. Matt performed a Legal Externship with the in-house counsel of a major area health system, and also worked as a Research Assistant in the University of Akron School of Law Public Health Law and Science Center. Matt then served as a Law Clerk in a Plaintiff’s Litigation practice in Medina, and finally as a Legal Intern with Perantinides & Nolan, Co. L.P.A. for the final year of his legal studies. This unique background has fueled Matt’s commitment to service of those who have been injured in the healthcare setting, and equipped him with the training and experience to serve as an effective and diligent advocate.

Matt also maintains an avid interest in the representation of Whistleblowers and Relators in Qui Tam actions, which seek to recover money fraudulently billed to government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. Matt intends to offer his training, experience, and diligence to help Whistleblowers who seek to hold organizations accountable under the Federal False Claims Act.
