Cardiology Researcher Found My Heart in Cleveland

I came to the USA on a J1 visa to further my studies on the relationship of heart disease to Lipoprotein sub-groups. I needed to learn new techniques in my field and then return to my relatives, friends and university job in China. I never expected to fall in love or even get married to a foreigner (...non-Chinese person). My J1 visa required me to go back to China for 2 years before returning back to the USA. Since my husband was in the middle of his doctoral studies, he would have had to abandon his research to join me. We hired Ms. Margaret W. Wong, and she was able to get a J1 wavier for us. Her office was very professional and kept us up to date on the case with the immigration department. Ms. Wong also prepared us for the immigration interview which went well. Ms. Wong made a hard and at times impossible process go smoothly. My husband was able to continue with his studies and I was able to stay. We now have a lovely and happy daughter.

Lani, Thank you for your review. This means so much. It's really important that our clients learn all the various ways people come to the United States, and make the decision to stay. Many people come, and return happily to their home country to live forever. Others find their "forever" in the US. It's not always an easy decision, especially if home life was pleasant and meaningful. We're so pleased we were able to help you "follow your heart."

A Very Excellent, Honest, Compassionate, and Knowledgeable Lawyer!

I have known Margaret Wong for a few years now. I must say that this is one of the best professional and compassionate lawyers I have ever met. I attended one of her speaking engagements where she stated that she loves the practice of immigration law because it leaves everyone happy at the end of the... case. She also stated that one of her greatest joy about her profession is to see the smiles on the faces of the client that she successfully represented. Without any hesitation, I will recommend the services of Margaret Wong and Associates to anyone seeking immigration help because I have experienced the exceptional services that she renders. I had the opportunity to invite my mother to visit me from Liberia. I scheduled a meeting with Margaret’s law firm. When I got there I was highly professionally welcomed. After I was processed, the staff pleasantly ushered me into a conference room where I was professionally and humbly greeted by Margaret. She was very knowledgeable and I was very amazed by the quality information and services that I received. I left the visit feeling great about myself because of the professional manner in which I was treated and satisfied with the services that I received. Since that visit, the Margaret Wong and Associates law firm is the only law firm I have been recommending people to for quality services. I am a community organizer and have observed the remarkable compassionate generosity of Margaret over the years towards every ethnicity within Cleveland. Margaret has and continues to support every community organization or event within the Cleveland area. I also served as a president of my community here in Cleveland and have equally experienced the humble and compassionate giving of Margaret to promote diversity within the city. Unlike other successful lawyers in Cleveland, Margaret support for diversity has no boundaries. This lady is very simple, highly approachable, and is always willing to put a smile on the face of her clients and her associates. Margaret has a pure heart of service and that is why she is very successful at her craft. She is like Mother Theresa to her community and to her clients because their happy happiness means more to her than their business. If you are looking for a highly trained, professional, and compassionate lawyer for your immigration needs, I recommend Margaret Wong and her law firm. This is a great woman with a great heart for her clients and her community.

Feel disappointed!! they took advantage

We paid her $ 8,000.00 just for one bond hearing, with the promise that he would be out the did not explain nothing. The bond was denied... They said if we want to appeal is going to be another contract and more money (Elisa said) ... they wanted to work with the asylum but they asked for $ 10,000.0...0 more but we do not accept Mexico does not apply for asylum ... and pay 10,000.00 $ with probability of not winning??... we already paid 8k for nothing. You took advantage of our despair and our ingenuity to overcharge us for just one hearing. Want or money back!!! You overcharge us just for ONE bond hearing. Not Fair... BAR.

Thank you for this feedback. I'm so sorry you feel this is a lot of money. Of course, it is, but the complexity of your case means this amount is more than reasonable. The additional monies we requested for the next matter were also more than reasonable considering the amount of research by our attorney, case preparation, and engaging an expert witness. We are a highly reputable firm, and it is our experience that handled properly, many cases like yours are approved. We study each case and do not sign cases we think are unwinnable. We understand you are pursuing alternate counsel, and wish you the best of luck in your case.

My wife got deported....

My wife was in jail for waiting for deportation. I met the secretary at Atlanta office, and she took the case. I paid $12,000. Since then, I met Mrs Margaret Wong only once to discuss my case. She said she can take my wife from jail and find a way of getting her the green card. I met my lawyer who...se name is William at the Atlanta Immigration Court. He didn't even know my name and my situation at all. He was not prepared for trial at all. He didn't even bring the document I submit. Anyway, he didn't answer to the judge and judge got so mad he didn't prepared. We have to reschedule second trial other day. But he said he can't take this case anymore and said he give up. They said only option I have is to voluntarily leave this country and comeback within 10 years. She said my wife can comeback within 10 years if she leave this country voluntarily. But if she got deported, she can comeback within 10 years. Later I found out that is total lie.....either case, she can't comeback. Anyway, my wife left this country, and I am living here with two kids. Terrible thing was that she suggested me go to my wife and marry there and bring back my wife. I did what she told me but i couldn't bring my wife from there. My experience with Margaret is terrible....

Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We know and understand and empathize with how you feel. Due to confidentiality rules, we can't address your case in this comment, but we can say that every case is unique, and almost every case has hope. Your wife's case may in fact not permit her to return, and that is a very sad thing. There are extenuating circumstances that make that so, and cannot be discussed on AVVO. However, US Immigration Law is constantly changing, and there may yet be hope for reuniting your wife with your family. If there's any immigration law firm in the United States who can help you with this difficult situation, it's Margaret W. Wong & Associates. We do much high risk, high impact litigation work with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice attorneys to help our clients, and have precedent-setting cases at the Board of Immigration Appeals, District Courts and Circuit Court levels. One of our attorneys lost a loved one after 3 years of struggling with cancer. When our attorney watched and shared thoughts with the doctors and nurses and social workers, our attorney thought of the similarities between an immigration lawyer and an oncology (cancer) doctor. Just like the doctor, the attorney may not be able to "cure the disease," but we treat our clients with passion and care and offer world-class service. So if you don't like our results, that's okay. But don't let a defeat break your spirit. We are really pretty good at what we do and we're only getting better. Let's continue this immigration dialogue. Please call and schedule a phone conversation so we can review your file, and have a conversation.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
