While greasing the chain on a San Franciscan Coffee Roaster, Mr. Spear's hand became caught in the chain and sprockets, mangling his hand including the amputation of multiple fingers. Mr. Spear's inju ... ries left him partially disabled and unable to perform his job duties. At trial, the Judge found that the coffee roaster manufactured by Coffee Per, Inc. had an unreasonable dangerous design and inadequate warnings, which led to Mr. Spear's injuries.

Mr. Matcovschi brought a lawsuit for damages he sustained in an automobile accident on Tulane Avenue. After settling with the at-fault driver, Mr. Matcovschi made claims against State Farm for the und ... erinsured portions of his damages and injuries (i.e. a UM claim, which is brought against your own insurer for any damages that are were not covered by the responsible party's insurance). Due to his injuries, Mr. Matcovschi was provided a recommendation for a back surgery. At trial, State Farm challenged the extent of Mr. Matcovschi's injuries and brought evidence of a number of subsequent motor vehicle accidents. The jury found in favor of Mr. Matcovschi.

OUTCOME: Jury awarded $51,448,174.77 to Ms. Marable with 90% fault to DTNA. Jury Award was confirmed by Supreme Court on Appeal. This is the largest jury verdict for a single injured party in the State of Louisiana.

Connie Marable sustained catastrophic injuries and was left in a semi-conscious state after her husband's Freightliner (18-wheeler tractor) jumped into gear and ran over her body. Although the parking ... brake was applied, the truck moved forward, causing the dangerous situation. The evidence showed and the jury agreed that the manufacturer, DTNA, could have spent less than $150 to install a second pair of spring brakes on the truck that would have prevented it from moving forward when the parking break was applied, preventing this catastrophic accident.
