1st time OVI charge may be best to just plead and save your money.

I hired Bryan as my defense attorney for an OVI case in Fairfield county. Although my defense case was very strong, I lost and was referred by Bryan to another attorney to appeal my case. After a total of 16 months and $8000, I lost again. Here’s my assessment of Bryan Hawkins as my defense attorney.... Pros 1. Bryan is a decent attorney. He is responsive, and seems to be genuinely interested in his clients welfare. Cons 1. Bryan is not very assertive / aggressive in his arguments. I think any defense attorney should be working for a slam dunk / knock out on behalf of his client if he really hopes to win! 2. Bryan has little to no rapport with Fairfield country prosecutors and/or judges… which in essence is what it is all about. He should have stated this to me upfront. 3. After observing how the Judge co-signed the prosecutors case and dismissed all defense motions and arguments, Bryan recommended that I plead no-contest and appeal the case with the assistance of another attorney that he referred me to.(another $4000) The Ohio Court of Appeals literally followed suit/affirmed the lower court decision - almost in a cut and paste fashion - totally ignoring any of the defense arguments made by this new attorney…. Prosecutorial case in both courts were very mediocre and did not address the defense arguments however the Judges still co-signed them unilaterally. I realize a defense attorney cannot guarantee a win…. but they can be honest about their limitations . An honest consultation of when and if you should simply cut your losses, and plead guilty should be provided. In sum, I really feel like I’ve been taken for a very expensive ride financially, mentally and emotionally. 16 months and $8000 later and I’m worse off than I would have been than if I would have just plead guilty upfront and not retained an attorney.

Absolutely The Best Attorney I've Ever Worked With!

I've battled mental health issues my entire life and have gotten in more than my fair share of grief over the years and turned to Mr. Hawkins after my 7th petty theft offense with one previous felony theft. I was certain the court would throw the book at me but Mr. Hawkins, while making no promises, ...was extremely reassuring and helped me immensely. He helped to bring my case before the best judge possible, worked with the prosecutors, the judge, and was able to bring about a resolution that placed me placed on just one year of probation, with no same or similar offense, and fines waived. Unbelievable skill. Throughout, Bryan was easily accessible and always took my calls and patiently answered my questions, unlike previous attorneys I had retained who, once they received their retainer, refused to take my calls or return my messages. There is not a better attorney in the City of Columbus and the surrounding areas. I assure you.

As good an experience as you can get

After getting popped for an OVI, I had searched for a lawyer specializing in such cases and contacted the Dominy law firm. Bryan is very knowledgeable, professional, and easy to work with and almost more importantly, he is known (and liked) in the Franklin county system. He kept me advised via ...email and text through the whole ordeal and is a very pleasant and friendly guy to work with. During what is a pretty stressful situation, he really kept me at ease and updated on the situation, recapping each meeting and making sure I had no issues and understood what was going on, as well as when I was scheduled to appear next and what to expect at each subsequent appearance. I was fortunate to have have him working for me, as he ultimately managed to get OVI charge reduced, which saved me the points, license suspension and all the other bad things that go with an OVI conviction. He and Sean are great to work with and seem to genuinely care about their clients. As he said, "most people don't like meeting me under the circumstances" but I'm glad I contacted them. I would certainly recommend the firm to anyone in need.

Not only did he teach me how to be practical in my approach to OVI related traffic offenses, he taught me an enormous amount about the law itself. Bryan is dedicated, thorough, reasonable, and tenacious. I have watched Mr. Hawkins aggressively litigate cases through jury trial and have personally seen him go above and beyond for his clients.
