Brian Samuel Stewart

Brian Stewart is a lifelong resident of southern Ohio, a Pickaway County Commissioner, and an Iraq War veteran. After experiencing 9/11 as a high school senior, Brian enlisted for active duty in the Army in 2003, and volunteered to serve in the infantry. After graduating from Basic Training and Airborne School, he was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, and was soon deployed to the Sadr City area of Baghdad in Iraq. During a year long deployment in 2005, he conducted over 150 combat patrols in the city. For his actions, Brian earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB), and was twice awarded the Army Commendation Medal before he was honorably discharged in 2006. Brian returned to school on the GI Bill and earned both his bachelor's and law degrees from the Ohio State University. From 2010 through 2013, Brian practiced with the Columbus law firm of Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP as a member of the Litigation and Business practice groups. He has represented clients in a variety of business matters, and in litigation before courts across Ohio. Brian is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts in Ohio, the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Tax Court, and has also represented clients before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Some of Brian's notable matters include representing a U.S. security contractor in federal litigation arising out of activities during the Iraq War, successfully defending a city councilman against an attempt to oust him from his elected position, and providing business counsel to central Ohio companies regarding the employer mandates of the Affordable Care Act. Brian is also very active in his community. In 2009, he successfully ran for a seat on Ashville Council, where he served three years on the Finance and Public Safety Committees and as President Pro Tempore of Council. In 2012 Brian was elected Pickaway County Commissioner, and presently serves on the Board of Directors for the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO). He also serves as Vice President and Spokesman for the Ohio Fallen Heroes Memorial, a statewide memorial to all Ohio service members killed in the line of duty since 9/11. Brian is a member of the Pickaway County Farm Bureau, the Circleville Sunrise Rotary Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), as well as the Ohio State Bar Association. He sits on the Board of a Directors for Pickaway County Community Action (PICCA), as well as the Area 20 Workforce Investment Board (WIB). As the descendant of a lieutenant in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War, Brian is also a member of the Camp Charlotte Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). In his free time, Brian is a dedicated movie buff, a passionate sports fans (Go Bucks/WhoDey), and enjoys target shooting, books on American history, and the music of Johnny Cash. Brian lives in Ashville with his wife, Letanya, a registered nurse, and their two daughters, Salem and Sidney.
