State v. Kaley Wilson
Jun 21, 2019OUTCOME: Negotiated plea
Kaley, an 18-year-old mother of two, was charged with second degree murder, for stabbing a woman who had come to Kaley's home, threatened and attacked her because the woman mistakenly believed Kaley wa ... s having sex with the father of one of the woman's children. A companion of the deceased woman provided inconsistent evidence against Kaley. The county attorney would not even respond to any request to negotiate a plea, and the case proceeded to trial. Towards the end of the second day of trial, the prosecutor finally realized that her case was in serious jeopardy, and finally agreed to discuss a plea offer. Instead of facing 50 years in prison, with a mandatory 35 to serve before eligibility for parole, the client agreed to a deal which will likely result in her release from prison in about four years.
