Pedroza v. Hayward

OUTCOME: The jury found that our client was entitled to over $10.5 million in royalties, and the Judge later awarded interest and attorneys' fees (with a multiplier of 2). In total, the judgment was for over $13,000,000.

Argued that, despite the lack of a written partnership agreement, our client was a partner of the entity that originally published the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Therefore, under Texas partnership ... by conduct law, she was entitled to her share of the royalties from these highly-successful books.

OUTCOME: Obtained arbitration award in excess of $68,000,000 for our clients.

We represented an LLC and one of its members in claims against a large Chinese state-owned enterprise, as well as several of its "subsidiaries." The nine-member arbitral panel found that one of the re ... spondent LLC members usurped the LLC's opportunities through its sister companies. The award included findings of alter ego and breach of the LLC agreement. In pursuing the arbitration claim, we also defended the LLC and one of its members in two federal proceedings in the Northern District of Texas, one federal proceeding in the Northern District of California, one proceeding in the Delaware Court of Chancery, and one appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
