On behalf of an up-and-coming artist client, I successfully negotiated an artist-friendly, all-inclusive, multi-record recording deal and co-publishing agreement with a well known independent record la ... bel in Nashville. The deal included a substantial stepped-up advance for each new recording period and a non-cross-collateralized 75/25 co-publishing split with additional stepped-up advances. I also succeeded in demanding a "pay-or-play" provision be included in the record deal and forced the publishing agreement to be co-terminus with the recording deal, despite heavy push-back from the label.
