OUTCOME: Returned aviator to full flying duties without restriction
In June 2014, a 27-year aviator and combat veteran was brought before a Flying Evaluation Board (FEB) for failing to progress in training. His attempts to complete training had been hampered for sever...al months by sequestration, weather, aircraft availability, aircrew availability and an unwillingness of Instructor Pilots (IPs) to give specific and consistent feedback. The situation was further complicated by a caustic environment within the flying unit. Following the 2-day hearing, the board members (a LTC, CW5 and CW4) had 30 days to complete their report and reach their findings. Their options were to permanently suspend Mr. Dishman’s client from aviation service, temporarily suspend him from aviation service, return him to service with recommendations regarding his future aviation service, or return him to service without restriction. Despite two IPs recommending permanent suspension of aviation service, and in less than 24 hours, Mr. Dishman was successful in returning this aviator to full flying duties without restriction.
