also known as Joe
Joseph Brown has been a life-long student of history. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Kentucky and his historical scholarship won the K.A.T.H. Thomas D. Clark Award for American History in 2013. In his studies, Joe noticed something in the annals of the past that drew him into the practice of law. “From Cicero to SCOTUS, lawyers have always been behind the scenes making civilization work and making history happen, influencing culture and changing society,” Joe says. “Law is a very noble profession and I find my work very rewarding and fulfilling. ELPO has a culture of excellence and I’m very honored to be a part of such a distinguished firm with a remarkable reputation.”
Legal reasoning is a way of thinking that appeals to Joe. “I enjoy the analytical side of my work,” Joe says. “I research disparate sources of information and synthesize them to arrive at an overall truth behind an issue, then I turn those conclusions into practical solutions to help real people with real problems.”
Joe’s practice areas encompass employment and education law, both natural fits for him, as it brings him in contact with a wide variety of people and issues. “Everybody goes to school, and everybody works,” Joe says. “It’s not a boutique field or a niche area. You’re dealing with a wide variety of people and a wide variety of legal questions.”
From 2012 to 2014, Joe was a Park Ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park. There he conducted historical research, but spent most of his time leading tours and educating the public about one of America’s greatest natural and cultural wonders. “Much like arguing a case, being a Park Ranger is a persuasive endeavor,” Joe says. “My goal was not only to teach people about the cave, but to connect them with it and make them realize what a national treasure it is.”
Before coming to ELPO, Joe was a law clerk at Garmer & Prather in Lexington. Joe and his wife Laura now live in Bowling Green, both are involved in a variety of community activities and are active members of Burton Memorial Baptist Church. Joe is passionate about education, public speaking, and community service and loves horseback riding and making music in his free time. “Bowling Green is a wonderful city to live in,” Joe says. “You’ll find that it’s neither too big nor too small; it’s a vibrant, diverse, and rapidly-growing city with every possible amenity, yet it still has the warmth and welcome of a small town. I’m blessed to be at ELPO, where I have unique opportunities to serve this wonderful community.”
