OUTCOME: My clients won dismissal of the case within months of it being filed. The trial court ordered Landry's to pay my clients attorneys' fees as well a six-figure sanction. The Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal, fees, and a six-figure sanction.

Landry's sued animal-rights attorneys (ALDF) for criticizing Landry's treatment of white tigers at the Houston Aquarium. I represented ALDF. OUTCOME: A Harris County jury awarded $11.4 million to my client, Houston technology company Function One Consulting Group L.L.C., after a competitor made false accusations of tax violations to Function One’s then-largest customer.

In this business disparagement case, a jury awarded $11.4 million to my client, Function One Consulting Group, including $1 million in punitive damages. The jury found that the defendant, Accudata Syst ... ems, made false reports to a Function One customer, the IRS, the FBI, and the Texas Workforce Commission about Function One's classification of workers as independent contractors. According to my review of past cases, this was among the largest-ever verdicts for business disparagement in Texas history.
