OUTCOME: Client won the child custody "move-away" trial, and the children were allowed to move abroad.
My client wanted to relocate with her spouse, a service member whose new duty station was going to be abroad in a foreign country. My client had children from a previous marriage, and a "move-away tria ... l" was held where we asked the judge's permission for the children to move abroad. My client's ex-husband fought the request for the children to move-away.
OUTCOME: Client discharged $400K+ in unsecured debt.
I served as co-counsel on this tough case that other attorneys had given up on trying to qualify this client for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Initially, the client didn't qualify for Ch. 7 nor a Chapter 13 ... bankruptcy due to a variety of issues in the case. After several months of preparing the case, we were able to qualify the client for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
OUTCOME: Client's real estate investment property was owned free and clear after bankruptcy.
I served as co-counsel on this Ch. 13 bankruptcy where the court granted our Motion to Value and Bifurcate Claim Into Secured and Unsecured Portions. To briefly summarize, we were able to get the secur ... ed portion of our client's investment property valued at $100K, which saved client a few thousand dollars due to being underwater on the mortgage. The $100K was paid within his Ch. 13 repayment plan's five-year term, after which client owned the property free and clear. Client was very happy with the results.
OUTCOME: Client received her green card.
Client needed to remove two-year conditional status on "green card" (i.e., Permanent Resident Card) after immigrating as the spouse of a U.S. citizen. This case was a tough one because they had divorce ... d prior to the deadline to apply for the removal of client's conditional status, but I was able to adjust the status to a full-time Permanent Resident with no conditions attached.
