I feel really deflated. I went to a free name change clinic because I don’t have the means to do it myself and appreciated help to go through this process. I paid the $140-$150 fee to file papers with lawyer Hughes and when court time came I was there alone because she was sick which I completely und...erstand but I did NOT get a call/voicemail that she would not be there. I was lucky to have a friend who’s an attorney there at court the same day I was and helped me through the court hearing. He provided some insight on what he’s seen in our county on sealing records and said to just let my attorney know. When I did she was clearly very offended and pushed me off to utilize him then because she has many other people she can help instead. I felt very brushed off and pushed away. I can’t afford a lawyer for this, which is why I utilized these services in the first place. The attorney that helped me at court did it as a last minute help out a friend but I know any further help on a case he didn’t start will cost money I don’t have. It all just felt like I hurt her pride and now I’m getting punished for it. It was not my intention to do that, I appreciated her help and was only giving the heads up that was told to me. It seems like she made some grand assumptions and her comment of having many other people she can help made me feel like I’m not worthy of said help.
