Jason A. Bowman is the president and lead attorney of Bowman Legal, Inc., a wholly veteran owned family law and appellate firm located in Louisville, Kentucky. A Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers with more than twenty (20) years of experience, Jason represents clients throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky in complex divorce, child custody, and family law matters, and he leads the firm’s dedicated appellate practice, Judge Got It Wrong (), which focuses exclusively on correcting trial court errors in Kentucky family law cases.
Jason founded Bowman Legal on a simple conviction: a law firm should be client centered, not attorney centered or firm centered. Over his career he has practiced in firms of every size and has had the corner office, and he learned that meeting a client where they are matters far more than a nice view. He still prefers to meet clients around town and see their lives firsthand, because an attorney who understands a client’s daily reality is better equipped to meet that client’s legal needs.
That conviction is personal. Jason grew up in a divorced home, and he knows firsthand what families experience when a court is restructuring their world. He pairs that personal understanding with rigorous training and disciplined strategy to guide clients through some of the most difficult and emotional chapters of their lives.
At the trial level, Bowman Legal concentrates on complex dissolution of marriage and custody matters across Kentucky, including high value marital estates, business valuations, retirement division, spousal support, child support, relocation, and parenting time disputes. Jason approaches every case with skilled negotiation first and decisive litigation when necessary, building each strategy around the client’s family and financial goals rather than a one size fits all playbook.
When a trial court gets it wrong, Jason takes the case to the next level. Through Judge Got It Wrong, the appellate division of Bowman Legal, he briefs and argues family law appeals before the Kentucky Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Kentucky, handling appeals involving divorce, property division, custody, child support, domestic violence orders, and termination of parental rights from all one hundred twenty (120) Kentucky counties. Appellate advocacy demands a different skill set than trial work; it rewards precise writing, deep research, and command of the standard of review, and those are the strengths on which Jason has built his reputation. He also provides mediation services for families seeking to resolve their disputes outside the courtroom, and he is admitted to practice in Texas, where he assists clients with family law needs as well.
Jason earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville in 2000 and his Juris Doctor from Texas A&M University School of Law in 2004. The State Bar of Texas admitted him to practice in 2004, and the Kentucky Bar Association admitted him in 2005. He is a graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and was previously named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.
Jason has served as treasurer and vice chair of the Kentucky Bar Association Family Law Section and as vice chair of the Louisville Bar Association Family Law Section, and he remains active in the Kentucky Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association, and the State Bar of Texas. He has published articles on a variety of family law topics and regularly presents continuing legal education seminars for other attorneys, including programs on military divorce and child custody.
