Stephen C. Emery

After graduating from the University of Louisville, Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in May 2000, and before joining Segal, Stewart, Cutler, Lindsay, Janes & Berry, PLLC in 2001, Steve served as a law clerk for Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge, Sara W. Combs of Stanton, Kentucky; and as a staff attorney for Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge, Joseph R. Huddleston of Bowling Green, Kentucky. During his service with the Kentucky Court of Appeals, Steve prepared draft opinions for these judges concerning several appeals. Steve is now a partner in the law firm of Howell & Emery, PLLC, in La Grange, Kentucky.

In addition to being admitted to practice in Kentucky’s state courts, Steve is also admitted to practice in both Kentucky’s Eastern and Western Federal District Courts and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Steve is also admitted to practice in United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits and in the Supreme Court of the United States.

Steve’s private practice experience includes representing individual employees and labor organizations. He has represented major Taft-Hartley jointly trusted funds: pension, health and welfare, education and training apprenticeship trust funds. He has represented individuals who are seeking ERISA fund benefits. Steve has also represented Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union No. 502 Health and Welfare Fund, the Local Unions No. 502 and 633 Pension Trust Benefit Funds, the Local Union No. 502 Education and Training Fund, and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union No. 502, in collection of monies owed to the local and the several funds.

Steve has worked with more than 500 individual clients and many labor organizations while in private practice. He has represented clients in a wide range of matters - from those arising in small claims court, to state and federal trial and appellate courts. Some of Steve’s clients have brought suit against large corporations and organizations, including some based in New York, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, and Kentucky. Steve has also represented several clients who live outside of Kentucky, including clients from Indiana, Kansas, California, Colorado, Michigan, Arizona, Indiana, Oregon, Ohio, Tennessee, and even Japan.

Steve also represents, or has represented, several Kentucky municipal corporations (cities), including La Grange, Audubon Park, Pewee Valley, Kingsley, and Hurstbourne Acres.
