Divorce complaint.
100% U.S. Disabled Veteran
Hired and retained: Aug 2017
Fired and dismissed: Nov 2019
I first hired Corey and his assistant Shelia to complete my divorce. After two years they did not get anywhere. Their ability to aggressively understand the nature of my specific cas...e goes beyond comprehension. I have experienced more hardship and more legal troubles corroborating with this office. I received what is called in the eyes of the law "bad legal advice" from this attorney. He is a sworn oath BAR ATTORNEY and OFFICER OF THE COURT = which means he is classified and proven he is Subject matter expert in the practice of law. So why did he overcharge me for researching something that was clear as day.... He billed me for a myriad of basic attorney knowledge to eat up my attorney retainer. I asked for my billing statements to keep up with my retainer. His assistant sent it 140+ days later with overcharges and horrible records keeping. I kept all my correspondence from HIS OFFICE and when I FINALLY Received my billing statement, I was able to do checks a balance. He did not keep up and overcharged with numerous fees.
Problems:
1. Communication failure.
2. Unresponsive to emails. Emails go unanswered for weeks. Matter fact = no professional email address.
3. Follow-ups are not concise.
4. His office staff is very polite but horrible at managing case files.
5. Failed to make any progress on case. Filed "moot" motions and rendered unnecessary steps to rack up charges.
6. Does not use LAW PAY
7. Does not sent out monthly retainer billing ledgers
8. Bills for FULL hours to send small emails
9. The Office is less than 200 yards from Clerk office/Court and charges 4 hours for driving and time on the docket.
10. Will not tell or explain to the clients all legal options under the Mississippi Civil Code of Procedures
11. Will not inform the client of rights to file under " Paupers Affidavit"
12. Does not communicate with opposing counsel of case matter and wishes of the client
13. Treats clients like ATMs
14. Deflects tasks to subordinates that are unqualified to manage legal matters
I am still not divorced and in the same place as I was in AUGUST 2017. I have to find another attorney that is more competent and client-specific receptive.
IF YOU have a cousin that was on the junior high debate team. I would try them first before this office and firm. AND IF you have retained Corey PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... get all your needs and request put into the terms of "two-way retainer contract"
1.make him use law pay.
2.make him send you monthly follow ups with billing statements
AFTER: The third time confronting their office about this and threatening termination for the breakdowns in the "attorney-client" relationship. I had to explain I would go to the BAR if no resolution. He dismissed the fees, and withdrew from my case.
