Jonathan Farris is a partner with Farris Law Offices, where he has devoted his practice to litigation. He is a seasoned litigator with a proven record of achieving favorable results for clients in civil and criminal matters ranging in complexity from general civil disputes to highly contested domestic matters to capital murder cases.
During his 17 year career Jonathan has tried to conclusion 45 jury trials and 22 bench trials; prosecuted over 50 appeals; and participated in thousands of other court proceedings. He has served as regional trial counsel for mass tort defendants and for members of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
As for for public service, Jonathan has served as an Assistant Felony Public Defender, Chief Felony Public Defender, Special County Prosecutor and Pro Tem Municipal Judge.
In addition to his litigation experience and public service, Jonathan is also known for his exceptional problem solving skills. But that is no surprise since he has been solving problems and overcoming adversity his entire life. Jonathan was born with Spina Bifida, an incurable birth defect that does not allow the spine to form properly which ultimately causes physical disabilities. In order to accomplish certain simple tasks, Jonathan had to undergo 26 major operations. Still, doctors gave him little hope. They told him he would eventually lose his ability to walk as he grew older. But Jonathan did not like that opinion so he set out to prove them wrong and did! Truth be known Jonathan has always fought to never let Spina Bifida hold him back even though some circumstances (i.e. sports, bullying) were harder to overcome then others. He learned at an early age to compensate for his disability through faith; family; will do attitude; and by developing strong problem solving skills. Ironically his battle with Spina Bifida has been a motivating factor in his success as a lawyer and in life. His daily creed is “be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid … for the Lord thy God … will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6.
Jonathan graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1996. He earned his Juris Doctor from Mississippi College in the Fall of 1998. He is admitted to practice in all federal and state courts in Mississippi along with the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association and South Central Mississippi Bar Association.
Jonathan generously supports the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi, Homes of Hope for Children, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Red Cross, the Spina Bifida Association of America, the National Rifle Association, the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College. He has also been an active supporter of the Republican Party not only as a member but also as a political candidate who has cultivated a strong base of supporters.
In terms of personal causes and goals, Jonathan has advocated not only as an attorney but also as a husband and father for the safety of children. He believes every child has a right to live a healthy childhood free from bullying, neglect and abuse. It is his life long goal to make his belief a reality.
Jonathan is married to the former Susan Sanderson, who is a registered Nurse at Forrest General Hospital. They have one daughter, Dru who attends the University of Southern Mississippi. Jonathan and Susan, along with Dru reside in Lamar County, Mississippi where they attend Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
As for his law practice, Jonathan provides the best legal representation available to his clients at reasonable and fair costs.
